Govt recently approves Inclusion of how many new Castes in Central OBC List?

Explanation: Government on 30th November approved inclusion of 15 new castes and modification in 13 other castes in the Central list of Other Backward Classes (OBCs). The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the proposal. The National Commission of Backward Classes (NCBC) had recommended a total of 28 changes in respect of 8 states — Assam, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and Uttarakhand. Out of these 28, 15 were new entries, 9 were synonyms or sub-castes of the castes which were already in the list and 4 were corrections. They will also become eligible for benefit under the various welfare schemes, scholarships etc. being administered by the Central Government, which are at present available to the persons belonging to the Other Backward Classes, it added.

Explanation: Union IT Minister Ravishankar Prasad on 9th December 2016 launched Digishala TV Channel. It is a free-to-air channel which will educate people about digital payment and is available on DTH service. Ravishankar Prasad said, the channel will encourage people for digital payment in their everyday life. The channel will be airing shows targeted at the rural and suburban population to inform them of various aspects of going digital like e-wallet, UPI, USSD, AADHAAR and usage of cards through talk shows and demonstrations. The services will initially be available in Hindi and English and later in local languages as well.

The new wallet services will initially be available in Punjab, Rajasthan, Haryana and Bihar and expanded pan-India by the end of December. MobiCash will allow users to deposit cash through BSNL retail outlets and withdraw funds from their account. SBI already has an application named SBI Buddy for smartphone users. With the large network of BSNL and SBI, this wallet will reach the remotest areas of the country, in line with the government’s digitisation mission, said Finance Minister Arun Jaitley who launched the wallet.
